April 2012. I've been 1 cm, 90% effaced, -1 to 0 station since 35 weeks. My doctor and NP said because I'm already dilating, almost completely effaced and she's so far down that labor may be "spontaneous." So as soon as I have 10 contractions in an hour for 2 hours or my water breaks I have to rush in to the hospital (half hour away).

Bottom line--being 4cm, 80% effaced unfortunately doesn't mean that labor is going to happen at any moment. It could--but you could also hang out like that for several more days/weeks.
